Macau: “Las Vegas of the East”

Macau has long been renowned as the gaming capital of the Asian continent and is rightfully nicknamed “Las Vegas of the East.” Before the year 2002, the casinos were owned by billionaire Stanley Ho. That was until the Chinese government put a stop to the monopoly and invited investors from in and out of the country. From then on, billion-dollar establishments were built on the island. Currently, there are a total of 34 casinos in Macau.

Some of the newest additions to its roster of casinos are the Venetian Macau Casino, the Sands Macau, and Wynn Macau. They offer a wide range of games from the typical slot machines to other casino staples such as poker, blackjack, and roulette.

World-class hotel facilities are also built in and around these giant casino establishments. A lot of hotels cater to families, tourists, and business people from all over the world. Casinos also come with luxurious entertainment facilities, including resorts, dining and shopping centers. World-class brands are also present including Louis Vuitton, Rolex, Dior Chanel, and Cartier among others.

One of the most popular casinos is the Lisboa Casinos located at the Lisboa Hotels Complex in central Macau. It is known for its classic casino ambience and luxurious amenities. MGM Grand Macau is another popular one. It features over 1,000 slot machines and hundreds of table games in its 222,000 square feet area that cost around $1.25 billion to build. MGM Grand Macau Hotel is known as one of the biggest on the island.

Today, casino resort complexes continue to attract visitors from in and out of the island. But aside from being a gambling mecca, Macau is also frequented by international tourists for its other attractions such as its ancient temples and churches, the interesting Eurasian architecture, its Guinness World Record bungee jump, and the popular Macanese dishes served in different restaurants.
